Office of the Director of National Intelligence

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) is a key agency responsible for overseeing and integrating the United States Intelligence Community (IC).

Established in 2004 by the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act, ODNI ensures efficient collaboration among the nation’s intelligence agencies, enhancing national security and providing critical intelligence to policymakers, military leaders, and law enforcement.

The Director of National Intelligence (DNI) leads the ODNI and serves as the principal intelligence advisor to the President, the National Security Council, and the Homeland Security Council. The DNI coordinates intelligence gathering, analysis, and dissemination across 18 federal agencies, including the CIA, NSA, FBI, and military intelligence branches. This coordination helps to prevent intelligence failures, address global threats, and protect national interests.

ODNI is also responsible for strategic intelligence priorities, cybersecurity initiatives, counterterrorism efforts, and combating foreign influence operations. The agency ensures that intelligence operations align with ethical and legal standards, maintaining transparency where possible while safeguarding classified information.

In addition to its intelligence oversight role, ODNI manages the National Intelligence Program (NIP) budget, allocating resources to enhance national security capabilities. The agency also supports technological advancements in intelligence gathering and analysis, utilizing artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cybersecurity innovations to strengthen intelligence operations.
